Orienteering


The Scientific Orienteering competition   will be held in Porto Vecchio, next Wednesday, May 22nd, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, designed by the Municipal Council of Girls and Boys (CCRR) of the Municipality of Trieste.

Almost 500 girls and boys, between 9 and 14 years old, coming from 11 schools in the Province of Trieste, will animate the areas in front of the Hydrodynamic Central of the Old Port to participate in a very special TRAIL-Orienteering competition: at each stage the athlete will have to identify the right lanterns indicated in the race map and solve quizzes on scientific experiments to get the best score and win the race.
The formula was chosen, at the request of the CCRR, to allow anyone to compete, regardless of  motor skills.

The School and Education Service has worked in recent months by activating the internal and external resources necessary for the implementation of the tender promoted by the CCRR and unanimously approved  by the Trieste City Council in June 2018.

The Italian Sport Orientation Federation (FISO) - FVG Committee that was responsible for planning and  organizing the tender for the orienteer part, with Immaginario Scientifico Museum designing and developing quizzes and scientific experiments that will stimulate the interest and curiosity of young people for science.

Furthermore, the Scientific Orienteering  is included in the proESOF calendar, towards ESOF2020 - Trieste European City of Science - and promotes an  active participation of citizenship, starting from the smallest, inspiring passion for research and spirit of collaboration in order to build a sense of identity and belonging in the field of science.
